AFTER HOURS BREAKDOWN INFO:
If Or When You Experience A Breakdown…
DOT requires that when you are stopped on the highway or shoulder, emergency warning signals MUST be properly placed within the first ten (10) minutes.
- First step is to turn on 4Way signals.
- Not just one light
- Must use your 4Way’s when placing/retrieving reflective warning triangles.
- While placing triangles, hold so they can be seen by approaching traffic.
- Placing of Triangles
- DON’T guess at distances.
- Rapidly pace them off
- On a two-lane road
- Place 1st triangle ten (10) feet to the rear or front of truck
- On the traffic side
- Place 2nd one hundred (100) feet towards oncoming traffic in center of the lane occupied by your vehicle.
- Place 3rd one hundred (100) feet in the opposite direction and in the center of the lane occupied by your vehicle.
- On a one (1) way road or divided highway
- Triangles must be placed at the rear at intervals of ten (10) feet, one hundred (100) feet and two hundred (200) feet.
- That is four (4), forty (40) and eighty (80) paces.
- On a hill, curve or a place where view of the truck maybe obstructed.
- Place a triangle in the direction of the obstruction, not less than one hundred (100) feet and no more than five hundred (500) feet from your vehicle.
- So, they can be seen by oncoming traffic.
It is the responsibility of the driver to stop safely in a safe place to a) minimize risk of an accident and b) ensure the truck does not interfere with traffic.
FLUID SPILLS
Confirm your truck is equipped with a spill kit prior to leaving the company terminal. This kit is used to absorb fluid spills and leaks. It is mandatory for all company trucks to be equipped with a spill kit! If your truck develops a leak while loading or unloading….
- IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN YOUR ENGINE AND PTO
- Use the truck spill kit to contain flow of spilled fluids.
- Notify the yard supervisor and/or port security.
- Yard supervisor and/or port security have additional spill kits.
- USE EVERY EFFORT to keep fluid from entering a storm drain, ditches, and other water sources.
- Do not attempt to continue loading or unloading.
- Contact the Proficient shop (904-772-1175) and report the spill.
- Return the soiled spill kit to the shop for proper disposal as hazardous waste.
- Replace the used kit with a new one for your truck.
TRUCK WASHES
Trucks should be washed at least twice a month.
- Blue Beacon
- Must get pre-authorized P.O.
If we have several trucks that need washed, we can schedule a vendor to come to our Jacksonville terminal. Drivers are responsible for the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of their truck.
ALL FUELING MUST BE DONE AT PILOT/FLYING J’S. IN AN EMERGENCY, YOU ARE ONLY ABLE TO GET 15 GALLONS OF FUEL AT ANOTHER TRUCK STOP.
Owner/Operators
Proficient is responsible for a maintenance file on each truck in our fleet. Owner/Operators must provide copies of all repair history and services to their truck, as well as DOT Truck/Trailer inspections. Both items are required by the DOT. Owner/Operators run the risk of Proficient choosing to shut down their truck if files are not kept current.
